The Name We Carry

The name IJA BOJYU comes from the Kumaoni language spoken in Uttarakhand. Ija means “Maa” (Mother). Bojyu means “Baba” (Father) — words that hold warmth, belonging, and the quiet strength of generations.

Just like traditions passed from parents to children, the crafts we celebrate have travelled through countless hands over time. The name reflects that continuity — a reminder that heritage is something we carry forward.

At its heart, IJA BOJYU is about honouring where we come from.

Where Our Story Begins

IJA BOJYU was founded by a mother–daughter duo, brought together by a shared admiration for India’s textile heritage.

What began as a quiet appreciation for handwoven textiles gradually grew into a vision — to celebrate the artistry of Indian crafts and bring them closer to the modern wardrobe.

Our journey begins in Banaras, a city where weaving traditions have flourished for centuries and where the loom continues to shape some of India’s most celebrated textiles. This first chapter honours the legacy of Banarasi craftsmanship.
